Vaccinations protect your pet from contagious and deadly diseases. They also help to improve your pet's overall health and quality of life. Puppies, kittens, and young animals greatly benefit from the animal vaccinations they receive in their early years of life. Following a proper vaccination schedule will help keep your pets healthy and safe.
Puppies need four rounds of vaccinations and kittens need three. Your pet should start receiving these immunizations between 6-8 weeks of age. However, if you received your pet after that time, you should get them started on the vaccination schedule as soon as possible.

•Obesity
35 percent of the pet population is overweight or obese. This means their health and quality of life are in jeopardy. Pets may start experiencing chronic pain due to their excess weight. They are more likely to suffer from respiratory disease, joint disease, diabetes, liver disease, as well as other preventable conditions that could have devastating consequences. It is so important to manage your pet’s weight to ensure they are healthy.
By bringing your pet to our animal hospital for routine wellness exams, our veterinarian can monitor your pet's weight. Since dogs and cats come in all sorts of sizes, determining ideal weight is difficult. Our team focuses on visual aspects, checking the amount of skin and tissue over the ribs, as well as the shape over the waist and underbelly. If we think your pet is obese or nearing obesity, we can provide guidance in determining an ideal body weight for your pet. If your pet is overweight, it can affect both their mobility and their overall health, so we strive to prevent this from happening.
Our veterinarian can give you tips and tricks to assist you in helping your pet lose weight and improve their health including a successful weight loss program that focuses on adjusting the amount of food and their activity level. Obesity in pets is an issue that should be taken care of. Weight loss may be slow, but with patience, all your efforts will pay off. If you have concerns about your pet, contact our veterinary hospital today, serving the San Angelo, TX area.
